The Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM) is a department at Karolinska Institutet and an interdisciplinary research institution within the broad field of environmental medicine. IMM conducts cutting edge research within the areas of environmental and occupational medicine, toxicology, physiology, epidemiology, and biostatistics with the aim to clarify how environmental and lifestyle factors affect our health and which role genes have. IMM also serves as a scientific advisor to public authorities within the area of environmental medicine and IMM scientists participate in national and international expert groups.



Unit

The Unit of Cardiovascular Epidemiology, IMM, conducts epidemiologic research on several public health diseases.

In the research group the Musculoskeletal & Sports Injury Epidemiology Center, in which the current project is located, we perform epidemiologic research about musculoskeletal disorders and sports related injuries, including large prospective cohorts studies and Randomised Controlled Trials.

Duties

The position is within a project in epidemiology aiming to increase the knowledge of long-lasting and disabling back and neck pain with or without concurrent psychological distress. The project is called "Long-lasting and disabling back and/or neck pain and psychological distress - modifiable factors for risk and prognosis in the working population". Data is already collected, and the work duties will mainly be to identify hypotheses and defining research questions, to perform analyses of data and to write scientific articles, together with the supervisor and an expert team. The postdoc is also expected to supervise and teach master students.

The position is part time for one year, with a possibility to be prolonged with 1+1 year.

Entry requirements

A person is eligible for a position as Postdoctoral Researcher if he or she has obtained a PhD no more than seven years before the last date of employment as postdoc. The term can be extended under special circumstances.

To be eligible the applicant must:

1. Have a PhD in medical science and epidemiology

2. Have experience and training in advanced quantitative statistical methods

Applications are invited from talented and enthusiastic applicants with advanced knowledge in epidemiology and biostatistics, preferably with experience in the area of muskuloskeletal pain, psychological distress, occupational and environmental medicine. Experience of supervision of students is meritorious, as is also teaching. The applicant will need to both feel comfortable with working in team and self-independent. Excellent proficiency in both spoken and written English is required.
