The Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, Department of Physiology at The Sahlgrenska Academy is seeking a researcher in experimental perinatal brain injury research. The research will focus on finding new neuroprotective therapies for children who are born prematurely or suffer from lack of oxygen at birth.

Dina arbetsuppgifter
SPECIFIC SUBJECT DESCRIPTION Physiology encompasses research on how the body's various organs work together to control processes and mechanisms, from molecules to organs and whole living systems, to sustain life. In the current position the main research focus will be on studies of circulation physiology in connection with brain damage in the newborn period. JOB ASSIGNMENTS Duties include surgical techniques in whole animal models. Histological and immunohistochemical methods to study brain tissue, and stereological analysis of brain cells represent a significant part of the work. Teaching, especially in the circulatory physiology, and limited administration tasks are also required.

Utbildning och erfarenhet
ELIGIBILITY The qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance. Qualified for appointment as postdoctoral research fellow (forskarassistent) is a person who has been awarded a PhD in medical science or have achieved equivalent academic qualifications. Priority should be given to candidates who have been awarded a PhD or achieved equivalent qualifications no more than seven years before the application deadline. ASSESSMENT Regulations for the evaluation of qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance. In assessing the applicants qualifications great importance will be attached to a high degree of technical knowledge. The primary selection criterion is scientific skills. Experience and competence in the specific field of research and the ability to manage and analyse data from europrotective studies will be judged as of greatest importance. The work includes writing and summarizing the findings in scientific publications, which means that applicants must demonstrate scientific skills. Previous work with experimental brain injury research in whole animal models will be considered especially meritorious. The second selection criterion is teaching skills. Teaching experience within circulatory physiology is considered especially meritorious. Administrative capacity and ability to cooperate are of equal importance.
