Location: Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, Göteborg
The position is based at the Department of Neuroscience and Physiology, Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg. The department carries out preclinical and clinical
research in neuroscience, rehabilitation, pharmacology, neurophysiology, endocrine physiology and circulatory physiology. Scientific activities include molecular and cell biological studies, integrative experimental studies, clinical research and epidemiology. Among the states devoted
particular interest include psychiatric and neurological endemic diseases, dementias, neuropsychiatric disabilities, eye diseases and the common metabolic and cardiovascular diseases.
Subject area
Physiology, specializing in cardiovascular physiology
Specific subject description
The cardiovascular system is of profound importance for the body's homeostasis. By supplying nutrients and removing waste products it has a central role in the function of almost any organ
in the body. Diseases of the cardiovascular system are among the most common diseases in the Western world. The Department of physiology has for a long time had a high level of
competence within this area, and it is important that this competence be maintained.
Modern physiological research is more and more directed towards the influence of subcellular components on organ function. Successful research in this area requires application of
techniques in cell physiology and molecular biology combined with the study of function in order to bridge the gap between molecular mechanisms and organ function.
Cardiovascular physiology is also an important part of the teaching assignment in physiology on both basal, advanced and research levels.
Job assignments
Research and teaching in cardiovascular physiology, and to a limited extent administrative tasks.
