A two-year postdoctoral position is available in the Department of Geosciences of the Swedish Museum of Natural History, a world premier science museum hosting comprehensive and unique collections. The Department of Geosciences conducts research in mineralogy and isotope geochemistry, which contributes to the museum's four research themes as outlined on the web site: http://www.nrm.se/english/researchandcollections/research.260_en.html.

WORK TASKS
The postdoc will work within a research project directed to studies of water components in nominally anhydrous silicate minerals. This type of minerals have attracted a large interest as a recorder of hydrous activities in various geological environments and as a significant water sink in Earths interior. The project focuses on OH contents in samples of certain origins, such as mantle and volcanic rocks and meteorites. Additional aims are to increase the understanding of OH incorporation mechanisms and exchange reactions. Tasks will include experimental work and development of analytical methods. The project is conducted in cooperation with international research groups.

QUALIFICATIONS
A PhD in geology and an interest in mineral chemistry and experimental work are required. The PhD degree should have been received before appointment, but no more than six years before the application deadline. The work requires a solid knowledge of mineralogy and geochemistry, good communication skills in English, good general computer skills, and an ability to work efficiently and independently. Experience in relevant analytical methods, in particular spectroscopic methods such as FTIR and Raman spectroscopy is advantageous.

OTHER
The application should include a cover letter and a CV.
The employment will either be as Postdoc or Researcher, depending on whether the applicant was awarded his/her PhD degree less or more than three years before the application deadline.

Varaktighet, arbetstid
Full-time. Temporary employment, commencement: The position is available for 2 years. The preferred starting time is September/October 2019, but this is negotiable. .
