Position description
The School of Business, Society and Engineering is looking for a postdoctoral researcher in energy and environmental engineering. The position involves working within the research specialization Future Energy Center (FEC). The work is part of the research activities conducted in experimental measurements in fluid mechanics and heat transfer under the DYNOP and DigiBoil projects at FEC.

The DYNOP project focuses on the development of an integrated control system which will combine the measurement of the quality of the biomass brought into the conversion process, and multivariable control using a process model. An efficient diagnostics system will also reduce maintenance cost and time. If the models can be adapted in a controlled way and combine different Artificial Intelligence functions and process optimization adjustment for different conditions, this will result in significant benefits, such as the reduction of waste of chemicals, energy, and raw material due to poor control. This can also lead to the achievement of better treatment results, which will limit pollutant emissions to the environment. In the DYNOP project the work will focus on the development of a system for reduction of NOx emissions using ammonia injection in a power boiler. The work will combine numerical modelling and experimental tests on site.

The objective of the DigiBoil project is to develop computational models that will enable the prediction of boiling heat transfer in complex energy systems and improve the understanding of the underlying physical phenomena. This in turn will reduce the energy consumption and the overall negative impact on the environment. The developed models will be used to build a simulation system where complex and large applications can be addressed. Within the DigiBoil project, the work will focus on the experimental investigation of boiling heat transfer in a purpose-built experimental facility, and the analysis of experimental results.

A large part of the work will be done at - or in close contact with - several partner organizations. The successful candidate is therefore expected to have a good engineering background with profound skills in experimental measurements and modelling tools and be able to interact effectively with partner research institutes, industry, colleagues and other stakeholders. The postdoctoral researcher is expected to take initiatives, develop own ideas and work independently, as well as take responsibility for the work. As the project interacts closely with other researchers and industrial partners, the applicant needs to have high collaborative skills.

The position may also include teaching in courses related to energy and/ or environmental engineering.

The position is a temporary employment of 2 years.

Qualifications
The applicant is required to have a PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering.

To qualify for the appointment as a postdoctoral research fellow, you should have received a PhD and shown research and pedagogical skills within the subject area. Further reference is made to the Higher Education Ordinance section 4 and Appointments Procedure for teachers at Mälardalen University.

The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English.

Decisive importance is attached to personal suitability. We value the qualities that an even distribution of age and gender, as well as ethnic and cultural diversity, can contribute to the organization.
