Kort beskrivning av företaget: Sahlgrenska Academy, Institute of Biomedicine, Department Medical Biochemistry and Cell Biology, The Mucin Biology Groups has received funds from Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation (KAW). As part of this effort and to ensure the continued successful research in the area a position as postdoctoral research fellow is announced and funded within the framework of the KAW project. The service is full time 4 years. The Mucin Biology research groups currently comprises about 25 researchers with some 30 more in collaborative groups, see also
www.medkem.gu.se/mucinbiology/. Beskrivning av arbetsuppgifter: SPECIFIC SUBJECT DESCRIPTION: Intestine as well as airways are protected by mucus. These different organs have different structures, which are due to the structural-bearing molecules, mucins, having different macromolecular organization based on both covalent and noncovalent bonds. There are four different mucins, and they have a similar domains, but each mucin still gives different characteristics. The Wallenberg funded project aims at developing detailed structures of the various domains of the four mucins. Different types of methodology shall be used and include cryo-EM, classical crystallization and diffraction analysis, as well as biochemical and mutation analyzes. To some extent, the results of NMR studies will also be utilized. The work involves independently conducting high quality research within the framework of the recently awarded Wallenberg project entitled: MOLECULAR STRUCTURE OF DOMAINS IN MUCINS AND ROLE OF THEIR INTERACTIONS IN MUCUS OF INTESTINAL AND RESPIRATORY DISEASES. JOB ASSIGNMENTS: Own research within subject. The Mucin Biology group uses English as preferred language.
