www.slu.seWe are looking for a highly motivated postdoc to take an active role in a research program related to pre-breeding on barley. A long-term goal of this program is to develop strategies for efficient breeding of new barley cultivars for northern and central Sweden. The program involves genomic tools for the identification and introgression of novel traits and genes into cultivated barley.
You will evaluate wild barley genotypes and old landraces for their tolerance to abiotic stresses in field and greenhouse trials, develop mapping populations of selected genotypes and identify quantitative trait loci (QTL) and molecular markers for use in barley breeding programs.
You will work together with quantitative and population geneticists at the Department of Plant Biology and Forest Genetics, Uppsala BioCenter, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), Uppsala. We have a stimulating international environment and the department contributes internationally to recognized basic and applied research on agricultural crops and their wild relatives, forest trees, and model organisms. Qualifications: PhD degree in Biology with emphasis on plant breeding, quantitative genetics, population genetics, evolution or corresponding topics. Documented experience in computational analysis is highly valued. The applicant should have good communication skills and proven skills in both oral and written scientific English.
To be appointed as a postdoc, applicant should have been awarded her/his PhD no more than three years ago at the time of application.
Form of employment: 1 year employment which can be extended to in total 4 years.
