Department of Crop Production Ecology
The Department of Crop Production Ecology, together with the Department of Ecology, constitute an inspiring research environment at the Ecology Centre on SLU's Uppsala campus. SLU is one of Scandinavia's largest centres for ecological research and we offer a dynamic and excellent research environment supported by a modern infrastructure.

On the Department of Crop Production Ecology we educate and conduct research on plants grown for food, feed and energy. Research and education have an emphasis on production with focus on crops grown on agricultural land and their interactions with the surrounding environment as well as with related ecological and socio-economical systems.

Duties:
This postdoctoral position in weed ecology is part of our strategy to develop weed science in the direction of weed ecology. The position will be associated to a new research group on weed ecology and weed management with a research focus on weed management based on ecological principles and with a system perspective to address challenges in agriculture. We work to find ways to substitute external inputs mainly by introducing more diversity in cropping systems. We also work to develop novel ways to manage weeds that allows the production of multiple services or that complement mainstream control methods in an integrated weed management approach.

The successful candidate will develop ecological knowledge of relevance for sustainable weed management in an agricultural context, build a research profile within the subject area and publish the findings in high quality peer reviewed journals. We expect collaboration with researchers in the group and others. Among the tasks are also to take part in, or even lead, writing of research proposals that are submitted to national or international funding bodies, give presentations at conferences, facilitate collaboration and conduct joint tasks within the research group, as well as teach and supervise students at bachelors and MSc level. The teaching opportunities will be relatively few, in Swedish or English, depending on language skills and programme. We aim to give the successful candidate the opportunity to establish as researcher at SLU after the postdoctoral period. Therefore, we will offer support in all tasks, the opportunity to take a reputable pedagogic course, as well as courses in Swedish during the post doc period.

Qualifications:
The successful applicant should hold a PhD in plant ecology or a related subject area. Priority will be given to applicants who received a PhD no longer than three years prior to the application deadline (considering career breaks, e.g. due to parental leave). The successful applicant should have demonstrated an ability to conduct and complete research projects, as evidenced by high quality scientific publications in international peer reviewed journals. The successful candidate should also be able to formulate a research vision that shows how the candidate plan to use previously acquired knowledge and skills to gain ecological knowledge that are relevant for sustainable weed management in an agricultural context. Good skills in English (both written and oral), in statistics and in the use of statistical soft wares are required. A credible motivation for why the position is of interest, including long-term ambitions, is meriting. Social skills and the ability to take initiative and work independently are highly valuated.
