Department of Ecology
At the Ecology Centre of the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), in Uppsala, Sweden, we conduct research on populations, communities and ecosystems. We generate knowledge on how land use and climate affects animals, plants, nutrient cycling and greenhouse gas balance, and develop sustainable solutions for the future. Active outreach and frequent dialogue with stakeholders are key activities.

About the position
With climate warming, we are turning up the heat on ecological interaction networks. This is a both scientifically and societally interesting scenario, since most elements within these networks are temperature dependent ectotherms. Warming up a dynamic system where each element may have its own temperature response curve will affect the expected integrity, topological structure and overall dynamics of the system. Against this background, the postdoctoral researcher will characterise the temperature-dependence of ecological interaction networks by combining observations and experiments at the levels of individuals, populations and communities. The approach includes statistical modelling, ecophysiological experiments and long-term time series from the High Arctic. Overall, we expect the project to provide a conceptual framework for understanding transformative changes in natural communities. In this context, the postdoctoral researcher will have a key role in developing the framework, planning and implementing the experiments, analysing long-term data and publishing their findings. The position involves field work in the High Arctic.

Your profile
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate pursuing an academic career in ecology with a solid interest in community ecology, including trait-based approaches and ecological networks. A PhD in ecology, ecophysiology or equivalent is required. The candidate should have a solid background in statistics and good writing skills. The candidate is expected to be capable and willing to take initiative and work independently as well as in a team. Excellent communication skills in English are required. As postdoctoral appointments are career-developing positions for junior researchers, we are primarily looking for candidates with a doctoral degree from the last three years. We put strong emphasis on personal character including good collaborative skills.
