The Department of Soil and Environment is looking for a Postdoctor. The department conducts research, environmental analysis and education in soil science and sustainable land use. The majority of the department's activities and employees are located in the Soil-Water-Environment building on the SLU Ultuna campus in Uppsala, and there is a research group with a field research station situated in Skara.

Duties:
We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our research group. You will be involved in two projects on soil compaction caused by agricultural machinery. The research focusses on improving our understanding of how soil deforms during repeated loadings and includes both field experiments to quantify soil stress and deformation due to repeated wheeling with agricultural machinery, as well as measurements of stress-strain behaviour in our laboratory. You will also be involved in an international project that aims at refining an existing model for evaluation of soil compaction risks in collaboration with farmers. You will be part of the Soil mechanics and soil management research group at the Department for Soil and environment at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Uppsala.

Qualifications:
For this position, a PhD in soil science or related topic is required. The candidate should have a very good knowledge in soil science and an interest in studying human impacts on soil functions, and proven expertise in soil physics. Knowledge of soil mechanics, especially of the soil compaction process, is an advantage. Experience with in-situ measurements of soil stress below vehicles is an advantage.

The applicant should have a documented capability to carry out research. The applicant should have good skills in writing scientific publications, documented by a publication record. Excellent English communication skills are expected. Knowledge of a Scandinavian language is an advantage. Experience in student supervision is an advantage.

Drivers licence B is required.
