Project description
The Division of Materials and Manufacture is part of the Department of Industrial and Materials Science. The division addresses research questions related to additive manufacturing, powder technology, surface engineering, 2D-materials like graphene, surface coatings, nanomaterials, metal cutting and grinding. The division is active in the new competence centre TechForH2, where manufacturing technology development that can contribute to the transition to a sustainable system by hydrogen use is included. The activities here already involves senior researchers, post-docs, PhD students. We now are seeking a post-doc with interest in materials used in hydrogen-powered internal combustion engine with particular emphasis of hydrogen embrittlement.
Information about the division and the department
The main competencies at the Department of Industrial and Materials Science are found in the areas of: Human-Technology Interaction | Form and Function | Modeling and Simulation | Product Development | Materials | Production and in the interaction between these areas. The research develops the industrial process, from need to finished product while creating added value. To combine skills throughout the whole chain distinguishes the department both nationally and internationally. Here we gather internationally prominent researchers, in dynamic and outstanding research environments, as well as in national and international research networks.

You will be working with material behaviors in sustainable vehicle propulsion system-green hydrogen powered internal combustion engine aiming for zero CO2 emission. The particular emphasis is hydrogen embrittlement of metallic materials. The position is connected to the new competence centre on TechForH2.
Your major responsibility as a postdoc is to perform own research in the research group of Powder Metallurgy and Additive Manufacturing. The position may also include teaching on undergraduate and master's levels as well as supervising of master's and/or PhD students to a certain extent. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia, industry and society at large. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.
Qualifications
PhD in materials science, material mechanics and/or production engineering, the degree should generally not be older than three years. Priority will be given to candidates that self-propelled, persistent, co-operative, creative, and with relevant background in metallic materials.
Skills in materials characterization, microstructures, and mechanical properties, etc., are considered as merits. You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching and project management, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education.
Contract terms
This is a full-time employment at Chalmers for two years with the possibility to be extended to three years.
