Postdoctoral position in Electrochemistry at Cells
at the Department of Chemistry
Description of position:
One person is sought for project involving selective multicomponent analysis and electro-chemical imaging of bioanalytes released at single cells. The analytical part of the research includes development of methods for simultaneous monitoring and measuring of several biocompounds including oxygen, glucose, insulin, nitric oxide, neurotransmitters, hormones and pH changes at biological targets ranging from chemical compounds to single cells and tissues.
The technical part of the project involves the development of individually addressable chemi-cally modified microelectrode arrays for the simultaneous electrochemical detection of bio-components. Using different modifiers on each individual electrode in the array we plan to selectively and simultaneously detect different analytes of interest. This will include applica-tion of current electrode array technology and development of new technology with higher numbers of smaller electrodes.
We plan to develop arrays of ultrasmall electrodes beyond anything done before. The long-term plans include the fabrication of arrays conaining up to 25 modified microelectrodes with total working surface diameter of 15-30 ?m. Such array will be used to image bioanalyte at differen parts of a single cell with unprecedented spatial resolution. Interaction and collabora-tion with PhD students carrying out similar work in the laboratory will also be expected.
The term of the appointment will be for one year and should begin as agreed, during the spring 2011. The term is renewable for a year upon suitable progress.
Qualifications:
Applicants should hold a recent PhD in Chemistry. "Recent" means three years but parental leave and other circumstances may be taken into account and should be stated in the applica-tion.
