Postdoctoral position
in chemistry
SLU develops knowledge about natural resources as well as social systems – everything that lives and grows. At SLU we conduct research, teach and inform about the opportunities, and possible risks incurred, when using our forests, landscapes, soils and animals in different ways.
SLU offers a broad spectrum of educational programmes and single subject courses. About 3 300 undergraduates and 800 postgraduate students are enrolled at SLU. A total of
3 200 people are employed at the University.
Main campuses are located at Alnarp, Skara, Ultuna and Umeå. Research and teaching activities are carried out throughout the country.
www.slu.seThe Faculty of Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences is the largest of the four faculties of the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) in Sweden. The faculty, which is located in Uppsala 70 km north of Stockholm, covers a wide range of disciplines, spanning over agriculture, food and biotechnology to natural resources, environment and veterinary and human medicine.
The Department of Chemistry (www.kemi.slu.se) conducts research in the fields of inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, organic chemistry and natural products chemistry. Many research projects focus on environmental issues, whereas other projects are oriented towards analysis of biological systems using chemical and spectroscopic methods. The Department of Chemistry is part of Uppsala BioCenter.
A post-doctoral position is available at the division of Inorganic Chemistry to conduct research related to the synthesis and characterization of perovskite nanoparticles for biological and medical diagnostics. The on-going research at the division of Inorganic Chemistry, Materials for Environment group, is concentrated to the studies of the influence of the chemical composition and molecular structure of metal-organic precursors on porosity and chemical and phase composition of oxide materials produced from precursors by sol-gel technology. The successful candidate is expected to work closely with colleagues within a research team at the Materials for Environment group, Department of Chemistry, SLU, to strengthen the research in the area of sol-gel synthesis of nanomaterials, especially the highly crystalline nanoparticles for diagnostic applications.
Applicants should have a PhD degree in Chemistry or Materials Science or other relevant area with experience in sol-gel synthesis of oxide materials and their characterization applying X-ray powder and SEM-EDS techniques. Basic knowledge in non-linear optics and magnetism is advantageous.
The position is full-time and will be granted for a period of maximum two years, starting in the autumn of 2008. The salary is negotiated individually.
SLU is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
