You will be placed at the research group SMoG (Spatial Morphology Group) and be part of a team of researchers that collaborate in the project TWIN2EXPAND on evidence-based urban design and planning. Within this project, the postdoc researcher is responsible for the development of a longitudinal GIS model involving the green and blue infrastructures as well as integrating this with already existing models on transport infrastructures and built density that allows the study of social and environmental issues (e.g. healthy living, biodiversity and environmental justice). Furthermore, the postdoc researcher is responsible to, based on this integrated model, develop methods and tools to support evidence-based urban design and planning.
Project description
The post-doctoral position is part of the TWIN2EXPAND project that aims at innovating evidence-based urban design and planning by using urban analytics and developing design support tools. The project is a collaboration between Chalmers, UCL London, Torino University and Cyprus university.* TWIN2EXPAND addresses major and urgent challenges that contemporary cities are faced with, such as rapid climate change and environmental degradation as well as questions of health, well-being and equity in access to urban resources. Urban planning and design have the responsibility to foster the solutions to mitigate environmental burdens and risks and to create the conditions which enable a high quality of life in cities through effective and just supply and distribution of resources and infrastructures. These challenges are complex and multifaceted; addressing them requires an evidence-based design approach and analytical approaches using spatial analysis. Such an approach ensures that urban challenges are addressed effectively and sustainably, based on sound knowledge and understanding of the impact of design and planning decisions.

Also, skills in statistical analysis are required such as clustering analysis, regression analysis, ANOVA.
Additional merits that are considered:
• Experience with the study of urban form and urban resilience in relation to, for instance, heat stress, biodiversity, ecosystem services.
• Experience with Space Syntax theory and methods.
• Having practical experience in urban design and planning is meritorious.
• Sound oral and written skills in English is a requirement.
