We are looking for you who want to participate in the work of mapping and analyzing which factors affect the distribution and spread of lodgepole pine in the landscape. Despite the fact that invasive alien species have been identified as one of the major threats to biodiversity worldwide the knowledge what factors decide whether a species becomes invasive or not remains scarce. In Swedish woodland, large areas have been planted with the foreign tree species lodgepole pine (Pinus contorta var. latifolia) under the notion that the species would not spread outside the plantations. Today, however, seedlings are often found along roads as well as on clearcuts, but also on mires and even in the mountains. At the same time as the area of ??lodgepole-dominated forests increases due to planting and sowing, the extent of the species' self-spreading remains uninvestigated.

Duties:
The duties of this postdoc position include analyzing existing data on the distribution of lodgepole pine and using sensor data such as satellite images analyze patterns in the presence and density of contort numbers in Sweden. One of the aims with the project is to characterize environments where the species easily establishes, and where the species runs the risk of being invasive. The work includes method development as well as statistical analysis of large amounts of geographical data, but also field validation and writing of scientific articles.

Qualifications:
We are looking for a highly motivated person with distinct analytical ability and great interest in developing within remote sensing and statistical modeling of ecological data. Applicants with documented experience of working with remote sensing and GIS, managing large amounts of data and good knowledge of the statistical software R are particularly encouraged to apply for the position.
