We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team and contribute to cutting-edge research in the field of sustainable consumption. As a Postdoc, you will play a crucial role in developing novel methods to accurately estimate carbon footprints at the individual and household levels. By focusing on the impact of heterogeneity in both quality and quantity of consumption patterns, your research will enhance our understanding of the aggregated carbon footprints of different household groups.

Project description
In this role, you will have the opportunity to address important research questions pertaining to the carbon footprint of high-income groups using a unique dataset. By exploring whether a shift towards more expensive, high-quality products can lead to more sustainable consumption patterns, you will contribute to the development of effective strategies for achieving a low-carbon future. Our research group is actively engaging in the societal discussion and your work has a good chance of affecting the societal and policy discussion in Sweden and abroad.

The Division of Physical Resource Theory carries out research and education about potential solutions to our major environmental challenges, e.g. global warming and sustainable use of land and other resources. The division focuses on research in the field of technical and socio-economic systems addressing the challenges involved in the transition into a sustainable and low carbon society for a growing population, where a range of different quantitative and qualitative methods can be applied on our research topics. The ambition is to build challenge-driven scientific excellence by crossing traditional boundaries and increase the level of multi-disciplinarity in research. The division has around 50 staff members, faculty and PhD-students with diverse expertise, including engineers, natural and social scientists. We also offer courses in areas related to our research.

The post-doc will work primarily within the research program Mistra Sustainable Consumption, a collaboration between Chalmers, KTH, Lund University and several public and private partner organizations: https://www.sustainableconsumption.se/en/start-eng/.

Major responsibilities

• Develop and refine innovative methodologies for accurately measuring carbon footprints at the individual and household levels.
• Analyze and interpret data to gain insights into the relationship between consumption patterns and carbon emissions.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of experts in sustainable consumption to integrate findings into broader research efforts.
• Contribute to the dissemination of research findings through high-quality publications, conferences, and workshops.
• Engage with stakeholders from industry, government, and non-profit organizations to ensure the real-world impact of your research.

Qualifications
To be qualified for the position of PostDoc you must have a PhD degree in a relevant field (e.g. sustainability research at technical university or environmental social science). Applicants with PhD degrees awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline will have priority. You have excellent skills in quantitative data analysis.
Experience from methods for assessing carbon footprints of households, Life-Cycle Assessment (LCA), and environmentally extended input-/output analyses are strong merits for the position.

Contract terms
The PostDoc position is full-time, initially for two years, with a possibility for extension (given funding) of up to two years.
