Strong research and attractive study programmes attract scientists and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future. We are recruiting a postdoctoral fellow to join our dynamic team of immunologists in the laboratory of Davide Angeletti (www.angelettilab.com). The lab is funded by several grants including financing from European Research Council (ERC-StG), Wallenberg Foundations and Ventenskapsrådet. The fellow will work on an exciting project combining state of the art immunological techniques and multicolor flow cytometry with advanced in vivo models to dissect molecular and cellular rules behind B cell immunodominance after influenza infection or vaccination
Subject area
Viral Immunology.
Subject area description
Influenza virus infection continues to cause significant morbidity and mortality and seasonal vaccines show modest efficacy. The main target of current vaccines is influenza hemagglutinin (HA). We are interested in understanding why our humoral immune system does not recognize all epitopes of HA in the same way. To dissect this we are combining BCR-transgenic mouse models with advanced immunological techniques. By deciphering why some conserved epitopes are not able to elicit a humoral immune response, we hope to be able to design improved, next-generation vaccines.
Duties
The successful candidate is expected to work independently and drive the project. They will be responsible for the planning and execution of experiments, analysis and interpretation of the data and writing of manuscripts. Practical work will include handling and genotyping mice, in vivo infection and vaccination, multi-color flow cytometry and other standard immunological techniques.

The successful candidate is required to have a PhD in the Biomedical area, preferably immunology.
The following qualifications are required for the position: 1) extensive experience working with in vivo mouse models including adoptive transfers of immune cells, immunizations and influenza infection 2) experience with analysis of immune cells by multicolor flow cytometry 3) ability to complete projects as demonstrated by at least one first author publications in international peer-reviewed journal.
The following qualifications are strong merits: 1) experience with tetramer staining of B cells, 2) experience in handling influenza virus and performing standard neutralization assays, 3) experience with cytokine profiling.
The candidate is also expected to have excellent proficiency in written and spoken English. Ability to work in a group and personal suitability are of great importance when evaluating applicants.
Regulations for the evaluation of qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4,
