The research group studies immune reactivity against cancer cells (tumor immunology) with the aim of developing immunotherapies in cancer. The group cooperates with clinical units and has initiated clinical phase III and phase IV trials that evaluated the efficacy of immunotherapy in several forms of cancer. The present project aims at providing new knowledge about the role of cell-mediated immunity in human pancreatic cancer with emphasis on the role of natural killer (NK)-cells and cytotoxic T lymphocytes.
Subject area
Tumor immunology
Subject area description
Pancreatic cancer is a relatively common form of cancer that frequently carries poor prognosis for long-term survival. This project aims at defining the role of immunity, in particular functions of NK cells and cytotoxic T cells, in this disease. The planned studies may translate into improved therapy based on activation of cell-mediated immunity
Job assignments
The assignee will perform studies of NK- and T cell function in human pancreatic cancer with emphasis on the role of these immune cells for the course of disease and for the risk of distant metastasis. This task will be accomplished primarily using advanced flow cytometry and immunohistochemistry. The post-doctor project may additionally comprise the establishment of in vivo-models of pancreatic cancer in experimental animals along with the evaluation of immunotherapy in these models.
Eligibility
An achieved doctoral degree is compulsory for a position as postdoctor at the University of Gothenburg. The doctoral thesis shall be in a relevant area according to the specific position stated here. Since a position as postdoctor aims to give new holders of the doctorate the opportunity mainly to strengthen and develop their scholarly proficiency, we aim for those who have a doctoral degree not older than 3 years counting from last date of application.
