Postdoc position at the Sahlgrenska Cancer Center
Subject area
Molecular pathology with focus on translational breast cancer research
Subject area description
The long term scientific goal within this project is to identify and develop novel breast cancer therapies and diagnostic methods specifically focusing on cancer stem cell propagation in relevant microenvironments. The project will be focused on cellular communication systems mediating cancer stem cell activating or inhibitory signals as well as the influence of cell free primary breast cancer scaffolds on cancer stem properties. The clinical utility of the scaffold model system in relation to prognostic and treatment predictive information will also be studied.
Key methods that will be used in combination with primary breast cancer cells and functional cancer stem cell enriching assays are PCR/RNA-sequencing, explant growth of primary tumours, breast cancer scaffold cultures and patient derived xenograft (PDX) cultures in mice. The project will be based at Sahlgrenska Cancer Center consisting of basic and clinical researchers dedicated to translational cancer research. Job assignments
Job assignments
To independently and together with other coworkers carry out research of a high international standard and report research findings in articles and at conferences. Supervision of students and shared responsibility for laboratory techniques and equipment will also be included in job assignments.
Eligibility
An achieved doctoral degree is compulsory for a position as postdoctor at the University of Gothenburg. The doctoral thesis shall be in a relevant area according to the specific position stated here. Since a position as postdoctor aims to give new holders of the doctorate the opportunity mainly to strengthen and develop their scholarly proficiency, we aim for those who have a doctoral degree not older than 3 years counting from last date of application.
The qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance.
Assessment
PhD and experience within a for the project relevant subject area. Excellent ability to cooperate. Emphasis will be set on personal qualities.
