at the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics. Closing date: 16th April 2023.

The Department is mainly located with the other Departments of Chemistry and Life Sciences in the Arrhenius Laboratories for Natural Sciences, which are situated in the northern part of the University Campus at Frescati. Some 300 people of which about 70 are PhD students work at the Department, engaged in internationally highly recognized research covering a broad range of subjects.

Project description
A fully funded postdoctoral position is available in the lab of Dr. Marek Bartosovic. Our lab is focused on studying the epigenetic regulation of brain development under normal and pathological conditions. We use cutting edge single-cell and spatial technologies to gain novel insights into the process of brain development. We have previously developed novel technologies to multimodally map several histone marks and open chromatin with single-cell resolution (Bartosovic et al., Nature Biotech., 2021; Bartosovic et al., Nature Biotech., 2022) and with high spatial resolution (Deng, Bartosovic et al., Nature, 2022; Deng, Bartosovic et al., Science 2022; Zhang et al., Nature, 2023). We are now applying these technologies in various biological systems and models and uncovering epistatic interactions between regulatory factors during development.

Main responsibilities
The candidate is expected to take part in the research in the lab of Dr. Marek Bartosovic with particular focus on studying the epigenetic regulatory principles of brain development. The candidate will perform variety of molecular and cell biology methods including high-throughput, single-cell and spatial methods to uncover the heterogeneity and molecular mechanisms of gene regulation in brain development. The candidate will also implement and optimise various 2D and 3D in vitro models of neuronal differentiation.

Qualification requirements
Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research. Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.

Assessment criteria
The degree must have been completed at latest before the employment decision is made, but no more than three years before the closing date. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances. Special reasons refer to sick leave, parental leave, elected positions in trade unions, service in the total defense, or other similar circumstances as well as clinical attachment or service/assignments relevant to the subject area.

In the appointment process, special attention will be given to research skills in single-cell/spatial technologies and in the principles of gene regulation. The candidate should have a competitive publication track record. Prior experience in either neuroscience, epigenetics, single-cell or spatial epigenomics or transcriptomics, iPS cell organoid or organotypic models or CRISPR-Cas genome/epigenome editing or similar will be considered.

Terms of employment
The position involves full-time employment for a minimum of two years and a maximum of three years, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances. Start date 2023-05-15 or as per agreement.

Stockholm University strives to be a workplace free from discrimination and with equal opportunities for all.
