Department of Biomedicine and Veterinary Public Health, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, is looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow in the field of molecular toxicology for a 2 year fixed term position.
The Postdoctoral Fellow will join the Molecular Toxicology research group. This research group aims to develop and use cell-based biological methods to detect and identify toxic compounds in the environment, especially the aquatic environment. The assays used are based on cultured human cells that have been modified to respond to toxic compounds that activate specific signaling pathways in the cells. These methods can be used to evaluate the presence of toxic compounds in the environment, without a priori knowledge on the exact chemical structure of the toxic compounds. By combining these methods with advanced chemical analysis, it is possible to identify the toxic compound(s) and thereby potentially identify novel environmental pollutants with toxic properties.
Tasks: Research in the field of molecular toxicology, with a special focus on the development of cell based in vitro assays for studies of toxicity and the application of the developed methods to evaluate the presence of toxic compounds in water samples. In collaboration with chemists apply the principle of effect-directed analysis with the ultimate goal to identify the compounds causing toxicity. The research involves collaboration with researchers at other departments at SLU and other universities, both within Sweden and internationally.
The Postdoctoral Fellow is expected to conduct research in this scientific field in close collaboration with the other members of the research group. The Postdoctoral Fellow is expected to take a leading role in the design and execution of the laboratory work, to publish scientific papers, and to participate in the supervision of master students and PhD students.
More information about the research group can be found here:
http://www.slu.se/institutioner/biomedicin-veterinar-folkhalsovetenskap/forskning/toxikologi/molecular-toxicology/Qualifications: Ph.D. degree in a subject field of relevance for this research area, e.g. molecular biology, biochemistry, toxicology, or pharmacology. The Ph.D. degree should have been obtained within a maximum of three years before the final application date. Previous research experience in the field of molecular toxicology, as well as previous experience from molecular biology and cell culturing, is meritorious.
The applicant must be sufficiently fluent in English to understand, discuss and communicate science on a high level. The assessment of applications will be based primarily on the applicant's ability to conduct independent research of high scientific quality, as well as the applicant 's collaborative skills and problem-solving capacity.
The application should include:
• Letter of motivation describing yourself and your research interests, briefly describing your education and motivation of why you want to work as a Postdoctoral Fellow
• Your CV, including list of publications
• Copy of your PhD degree, your grades and a copy of your thesis
• Name and contact information to at least two reference persons (e-mail address and phone no.)
• Five (or less) selected relevant publications
The application should be written in English.
Type of position: Postdoctoral Fellow 2 years (fixed term position)
