We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated post-doc for a translational project on lymphatic endothelial cell function, inflammation and metabolic health. The project is part of a novel collaboration between groups with expertise in inflammation and metabolic health as well as leukocyte recirculation and homing, and will be hosted by the Wallenberg Center for Molecular and Translational Medicine (
http://wcmtm.gu.se/) at the Sahlgrenska Academy at University of Gothenburg.
Subject area
Endothelial cell biology
Subject area description
Recent work has demonstrated the close connection between inflammation and metabolic diseases. Lymphatic endothelial cells are a key component in regulating local tissue inflammation, but have not received much attention in relation to obesity-induced adipocyte inflammation.
In this project we aim to determine lymphatic endothelial cell function in adipose tissues from metabolically healthy and unhealthy individuals, using ex vivo tissue biopsies and cells from human volunteers. We will also examine the effect of agents tempering inflammatory reactions on lymphatic endothelial cells in vitro.
Job assignments
Independent research within the area of lymphatic endothelial cell biology. Assignments include work in the wet lab, compilation of data, and manuscript writing.
Eligibility
An achieved doctoral degree is compulsory for a position as postdoctor at Göteborg University. The doctoral thesis shall be in a relevant area according to the specific position stated here. Since a position as postdoctor aims to give new holders of the doctorate the opportunity mainly to strengthen and develop their scholarly proficiency, we aim for those who have a doctoral degree not older than 3 years counting from last date of application.
The qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance.
Assessment
In addition to the eligibility criteria described above, we are looking for a candidate with significant experience of in vitro cell culture techniques and flow cytometry analyses. Personal qualifications include the ability to work independently, collaborate with faculty and hospital staff involved in the project, and self-motivation. Previous experience of work with lymphatic endothelial cells or large data sets from mRNA sequencing would also be desirable, and could compensate for less experience of other experimental methods.
Regulations for the evaluation of qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance.
Employment
The employment is a fixed-term full-time employment for 24 months and is placed at The Institute of Biomedicine. Starting date as agreed.
