Postdoctoral fellow in Immunology with focus on eosinophils in transplantation

Eosinophilic granulocytes are innate immune cells of importance for the immune defense against helminthic parasites. The cells are also associated with allergies and other types of hyperreactivity. Lately, eosinophils have been shown to be able to regulate B and T cell responses and heal injured tissues. It has long been recognized that eosinophilia occurs both in solid organ transplant recipients with ongoing rejection as well as during various forms of graft-versus-host disease.

Specific subject description
The goal is to study eosinophils derived from transplant recipients, both of solid organs and hematopoietic stem cells, and establish if eosinophils are activated, and if so, whether they phenotypically and functionally display signs of immunoregulatory and/or tissue regenerative activity.
Job assignments
Strong focus on experimental laboratory work: Cell isolation and culture methods, flow cytometry, chemotaxis, Luminex, mixed lymphocyte reaction, cell proliferation assays ELISA. Also PCR and Western blots. Planning of experiments. Logistical skills. Compilation and analysis of data. Writing of manuscripts. Collaboration and interaction with hospital employees including study nurses.
Eligibility
PhD in microbiology or immunology or closely related subject. Good skills in experimental laboratory work is necessary, as is experience of immunological methods. Experience of eosinophil biology is a bonus. Good interpersonal skills including ability to interact with hospital personnel, is necessary, as is fluency in English and Swedish.
Assessment
Preference should be given to applicants who have completed their PhD no more than three years prior to the application deadline. Those who have completed their studies before this should also be given preference if there are special grounds. Special grounds comprise sick leave, parental leave, or similar circumstances.
