at the Department of Physics. Closing date: 6 August 2023.

The Department of Physics is one of the biggest departments within the Faculty of Science and supports a broad range of basic research in experimental and theoretical physics. It has about 250 employees, of which 95 are PhD students. Many have been internationally recruited. The Department is part of the AlbaNova University Center, which apart from the Department of Physics houses the Department of Astronomy, the Physics Departments at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), and the Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics (Nordita).

Project description
The position will be associated with Dr. Magdalena Zych's Wallenberg Academy Fellowship Composite quantum systems in curved space time - foundations and applications. Dr. Zych is looking for a motivated postdoctoral candidate to join her newly forming group at the University of Stockholm.

The research of the group lies at the intersection of quantum theory and general relativity. In particular, the group seeks novel approaches to develop understanding of the regime where quantum theory and general relativity overlap and seek feasible ways to test this regime with high-precision quantum technologies.

Main responsibilities
The candidate will carry out research in collaboration with Dr. Zych and as appropriate with PhD or master students in the group, participate and co-organise group activities such as seminars and journal clubs, participate and present at scientific meetings, as well as contribute to organisation of conferences/workshops held locally.

Particular research focus for this position is developing theory of low-energy composite quantum particles as such atoms or ions, including special and general relativistic effects and developing proposals for new laboratory test of physics at the quantum and gravity interplay (including eg. tests of the Einstein Equivalence Principle).

For this position, knowledge of quantum mechanics is essential, and prior research experience in the topics relevant for the project is particularly desirable, for example, quantum optics, atom optics, atom interferometry, or optomechanics.

Qualification requirements
Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research. Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.

Assessment criteria
The degree must have been completed at latest before the employment decision is made, but no more than three years before the closing date. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances. Special reasons refer to sick leave, parental leave, elected positions in trade unions, service in the total defense, or other similar circumstances as well as clinical attachment or service/assignments relevant to the subject area.

In the appointment process, special attention will be given to research experience and skills, readiness to work in a team and to engage in group activities.

Terms of employment
The position involves full-time employment for a minimum of two years and a maximum of three years, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances. Start date 2023-10-01 or as per agreement.

Stockholm University strives to be a workplace free from discrimination and with equal opportunities for all.
