Titel: Postdoctoral fellow in exploring functional significance of non-coding RNAs in various cancer subtypes
Beskrivning av arbetsuppgifter: Subject area: Exploring
functional significance of non-coding RNAs in various cancer subtypes. Subject area description: More than two-thirds of the human genome is transcribed, generating thousands of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) that currently outnumber the protein coding RNAs. LncRNA, which are more than 200 nucleotides, do not encode any proteins but take part in all ciritical biological functions that have impact on development and differentiation. Mis-expression of lncRNAs leads to tumorigenesis. Though current estimates put annotated lncRNAs number to more than 20,000 but only a handful of them have been functionally characterized. Job assignments: The main aim of the project is to identify key regulatory long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) involved in neuroblastoma progression. Candidate molecules will be identified and characterized using a range of experimental and computational techniques, ranging from large-scale genomics to focused molecular and cell biology and biochemical studies.
Beskrivning av kvalifikationer: Eligibility: An achieved doctoral degree is compulsory for a position as postdoctor at Göteborg University. The doctoral thesis shall be in a relevant area according to the specific position stated here. Since a position as postdoctor aims to give new holders of the doctorate the opportunity mainly to strengthen and develop their scholarly proficiency, we aim for those who have a doctoral degree not older than 3 years counting from last date of application. The qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance. Assessment: Highly motivated candidates with a strong background in cell & molecular biology, and cancer biology will be preferred for this project. Experience in Wide-range of approaches including extensive experience in RNA biology, protein biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, functional genomics and molecular imaging is required. Regulations for the evaluation of qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance.
