at the Department of Physics. Closing date: 7 Oktober 2021.

The Department of Physics is one of the biggest departments within the Faculty of Science and supports a broad range of basic research in experimental and theoretical physics. It has about 250 employees of which 95 are PhD students. Many have been internationally recruited. The Department is part of the AlbaNova University Center, which apart from the Department of Physics houses the Department of Astronomy, the Physics Departments at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), and the Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics (Nordita).

The Department of Physics and Stockholm University is affiliated to Stockholm Dual Career Network (SDCN) that supports expat partners with professional events, career-related advice and by building a social network in their new hometown. www.sdcn.se/.

Project description
We have an immediate postdoctoral opening for an outstanding individual to work with Prof. Anders Nilsson in the area of experimental studies of water under supercooled conditions. The focus is to use liquid jet and droplet nozzles to cool small water droplets rapidly down and to heat amorphous ices up to temperatures where the anomalous water properties become extreme and then measure the thermodynamic properties and the structure and dynamics using x-rays at different x-ray laser and synchrotron radiation light sources.

Some experiments will also be conducted on ambient water using pump-probe techniques and resonante inelastic x-ray scattering. The goal of the broad water activities is to obtain a comprehensive understanding of water as a pure liquid across the phase diagram.

Main responsibilities
The successful candidate will carry a responsibility in preparing the experimental set-ups and for organizing beamtimes as well as analyzing data and writing manuscripts. The candidate will be involved in large collaboration teams.

Qualification requirements
Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research. Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.

Assessment criteria
The degree should have been completed no more than three years before the deadline for applications. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances, which may involve sick leave, parental leave, clinical attachment, elected positions in trade unions, or similar.

A suitable background is a Ph.D. in glassy or liquid water and/or x-ray diffraction or spectroscopy with synchrotron radiation with a focus on condensed phase studies and/or pump-probe spectroscopy of aqueous solutions.

In the appointment process, special attention will be given to research skills. The successful applicant will be selected based on documented experimental knowledge relevant for the area of study, knowledge of scientific instrumentations and method, analytical skills, personal motivation and team working skills.

Well-developed English language skills are required.

We seek motivated candidates with talent for instrument development, programming and science.

Terms of employment
The position involves full-time employment for a maximum of two years, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances. Start date as per agreement.

The position will be placed at Stockholm University but the individual will travel frequently to Stanford/SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, PAL in Korea, DESY and XFEL in Hamburg and MAXIV in Lund.
