Kort beskrivning av företaget:
The University of Gothenburg tackles society's challenges with diverse knowledge. 37 000 students and 6 000 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract scientists and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future. The Institute of Biomedicine is involved in both research and education. In both of these areas,we focus on fundamental knowledge of the living cell - what it consists of, how it works, how its function is directed by the genetic material, and how it interacts with various kinds of microorganisms. Using this knowledge, we try to elucidate the causes of diseases, and find new ways to diagnose and treat them. At present, the institute has about 350 employees and approximately 290 million SEK in total assets.

Titel: Postdoctoral fellow in Computational studies of non-coding alterations in cancer

Beskrivning av arbetsuppgifter:
Tumor development involves somatic alterations in cellular DNA, typically in protein-coding cancer driver genes. However, there are also indications that changes in non-coding genomic DNA could be important. The aim of this project is to improve our understanding of how mutations and other alterations in non-coding genomic regions may contribute to tumorigenesis. The project will involve bioinformatical analysis and integration of large-scale genomic data from tumors, including relevant public datasets. The emphasis will be on biological questions rather than bioinformatics methods. The work will be carried out in collaboration with experimental scientists. Relevant recent publications from our group include: Stewart et al., Plos Genetics 2015; Fredriksson et al., Nature Genetics 2014; Tang K-W et al., Nature Communications 2013; Akrami et al., PLoS One 2013; Jeggari A et al., Bioinformatics 2012.
