First day of employment: As agreed
A Postdoctoral position is available in our laboratory department of Medical Chemistry in Gothenburg, Sweden. Our group investigates the role of mucins during host defense against bacteria, and the biological function of changes in mucosal mucin expression and glycosylation associated with disease. We have shown that mucin glycans regulate pathogen virulence and growth, and the current project aims to collecting knowledge needed to use this to the benefit of the host.
Subject area
Host-pathogen interactions at the mucosal surface via mucin glycans
Subject area description
The project aims to understand how Helicobacter pylori, Helicobacter suis and Aeromonas salmonicida are regulated by the surrounding mucins in the mucus niche, and how their host mucosal surfaces and mucins in turn are changed by infection.
Job assignments
Infection experiments in mouse/fish and in vitro mucosal surfaces, mucin isolation, structural and functional analysis of mucins, analysis of interactions between mucins and bacteria, bacterial and eukaryot expression of mRNA, protein and glycans, and how these factors affect downstream interactions with host cells.
Eligibility
An achieved doctoral degree is compulsory for a position as postdoctor at the University of Gothenburg. The doctoral thesis shall be in a relevant area according to the specific position stated here. Since a position as postdoctor aims to give new holders of the doctorate the opportunity mainly to strengthen and develop their scholarly proficiency, we aim for those who have a doctoral degree not older than 3 years counting from last date of application.
