Sahlgrenska Cancer Center is a newly formed center within the University of Gothenburg with close proximity to Sahlgrenska University hospital in Sweden. The center is part of a strategic research focus on cancer within the Sahlgrenska Acadamy and consists of an exciting mix of basic and clinical researchers dedicated to multidisciplinary studies of cancer with highly set translational ambitions.
One postdoctoral research position is now available in Professor Göran Landberg's research group at the Sahlgrenska Cancer Center.
Subject area
Breast cancer
Specific subject description
Breast cancer represents many different diseases with partly contrasting clinical behaviours and underlying genetic alterations. In order to define novel and more efficient treatment schedules for breast cancer as well as define the subgroup of patients that will benefit from a particular treatment we need to know more about the basic defects occurring in cancer. It is also clear that the microenvironment influences the tumour cells and behaviours and hypoxia influences both the primary tumour site as well as potential metastatic niches. Within the project you will use a combination of experimental models and studies of clinical samples and specifically investigate how hypoxia will influence breast cancer initiating cells. Novel targets for therapy will further be developed using data from various high through-put screening methods. Within the project there will be a focus on breast cancer but other tumour types might be used to gain additional insights in the interplay between the microenvironment and key tumour properties.
