The University of Gothenburg tackles society's challenges with diverse knowledge. 53 500 students and 6 500 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract scientists and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.

The Institute of Biomedicine is involved in both research and education. In both of these areas, we focus on fundamental knowledge of the living cell - what it consists of, how it works, how its function is directed by the genetic material, and how it interacts with various kinds of micro-organisms. Using this knowledge, we try to elucidate the causes of diseases, and find new ways to diagnose and treat them.

At present, the institute has about 360 employees and approximately 440 million SEK in total assets.

We are recruiting a postdoctoral fellow to join our dynamic team of viral immunologists in the laboratory of Davide Angeletti (www.angelettilab.com). The postdoc will work on a ERC- funded project (ERC starting grant B-DOMINANCE). This exciting project will combine state of the art immunological techniques, in vivo experiments, CRISPR/Cas9 of primary cells, multicolor flow cytometry and more to decipher the rules of B cell immunodominance

Subject area
B cell immunology.

Subject area description
The goal of the research group is to further elucidate the rules of B-, T- cell and antibody immunodominance with the overarching goal of improving current influenza vaccination (see Mathew et al, Cell Reports and Angeletti et al, Nature Immunology). The postdoctoral project will aim at characterizing fate decision of cross-reactive B cells in vaccination and influenza infection models as well as assessing influence of CD4 T cells on B cell immunodominance.

Job assignments
The postdoctoral fellow will work in a dynamic and highly collaborative environment. The successful candidate is expected to work independently, give critical input to the project and design experiments. The project will include B cell engineering using CRISPR/Cas9 technology, mouse infection and immunization and adoptive transfers. The postdoctoral fellow will also use in vivo and in vitro models to evaluate B/T cell fate decision, specificity and functions. The methods that are going to be used include in vivo mouse models, CRISPR/Cas9 of primary cells, multicolor flow cytometry, influenza infection and possibly single cell RNA sequencing.

Eligibility
An achieved doctoral degree is compulsory for a position as postdoctor at Göteborg University. The doctoral thesis shall be in a relevant area according to the specific position stated here. Since a position as postdoctor aims to give new holders of the doctorate the opportunity mainly to strengthen and develop their scholarly proficiency, we aim for those who have a doctoral degree not older than 3 years counting from last date of application.

The qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance.

Assessment
The candidate should have a PhD in immunology with strong scientific productivity, demonstrated by first author publications in peer-reviewed international journals. Extensive experience with in vivo mouse models is required. Experience with CRISPR/Cas9, multicolor flow cytometry and molecular biology are strong merits. Previous experience working with B or T cells, influenza virus, single cell RNA sequencing is a plus but is not required. It is essential that the postdoc has excellent knowledge of written and spoken English. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

Regulations for the evaluation of qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance.

Employment
The employment is full time and temporary, two years, with placement at the Institute of Biomedicine. First day of employment as agreed.
