We are currently recruiting a postdoctoral fellow for a fulltime position for two years. The position is within Department of Psychiatry and Neurochemistry at the Institute for Neuroscience and Physiology at the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg.
Project: Biological activity of amyloid-related proteins in Alzheimer's disease
Alzheimer s disease (AD) is characterised by deposits of amyloid ? (A?) in senile plaques in the cerebral cortex. A wealth of studies suggest that A? is neurotoxic and that its earliest AD-promoting effect is related to inhibition of hippocampal long-term potentiation, which is the electrophysiological correlate to memory consolidation. The general aim of the project is to test the hypothesis that a dysbalance in the production and/or clearance of A? is a specific feature of AD. Using cell, tissue and zebrafish models, we will address: (i) how the different A? isoforms are produced, (ii) if certain A? isoforms are more synaptotoxic than others, and (iii) if APP- and A?-processing changes in response to synaptic activity.
Requirements: PhD in any field relevant to the projects listed above obtained within 3 years from last application date. A proven track record is required with publications in peer reviewed international journals and very good analytical skills.
