LINKÖPING UNIVERSITY
Hereby advertises a position as

Postdoctor in Data Driven Materials Design (within the Competence Centre FunMat-II)
formally based at the Theoretical Physics Division at the Department of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (IFM)

Duties
A Postdoctor will essentially carry out research. The position may also involve teaching, but during no more than a fifth of work time. The applicant is expected to contribute to scientific development of the research group via active participation in the group seminars, meetings, collaborations and other intellectual activities. The task consists of development of software and methods for automation of large-scale supercomputer calculations of material properties for the data-driven design of novel hard coatings alloys operating at extreme conditions of high temperature and large stresses. Applicants need to demonstrate experience with high-throughput projects, including development of software tools for advanced materials property work-flow management, automation, and front-end database access with, e.g., Python, git, MongoDB, html/javascript. Experience with theoretical methods for electronic structure calculations with focus on investigations of elastic properties, lattice vibrations and thermodynamic stability of systems is highly beneficial.

FunMat-II is a Competence Centre funded by VINNOVA (the Swedish Agency for Innovation Systems) in materials science and surface technology at Linköping University with partners at Uppsala University, the research institute Swerea KIMAB, and numerous Swedish and international industry partners. At Linköping University, the Divisions of Nanostructured Materials, Thin Film Physics, and Theoretical Physics participate.

At the Theoretical Physics Division we are interested in using fundamental principles and basic concepts for development of mathematical models followed by their exploration by means of analytical and numerical methods. The main goal of a theoretical study is to analyze and explain existing experimental observations, to make a systematics of generated knowledge, and to use it for new discoveries.
