The University of Gothenburg tackles society's challenges with diverse knowledge. 38 000 students and 6 000 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract scientists and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.

The Institute of Clinical Sciences, Department of Surgery at the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg invites applications for a postdoctoral position in cancer research, with placement in Wallenberg Centre for Molecular and Translational Medicine at the Sahlgrenska Cancer Center. The research group has a strong desire to generate novel targets for cancer therapy and translate basic research findings into new and innovative clinical trials.

Job assignments

The post-doctoral research project aims mainly at using novel animal models of cancer (e.g. Romero/Sayin et al., 2017, Nature Medicine and Jespersen/Lindberg et al., 2017, Nature Communications) with the aim to develop new therapies against lung cancer, melanoma and other solid cancers. The position contains a lot of laboratory work and problem solving, independently as well as in collaboration with both national and international colleagues.

Qualifications

The successful candidate should have a strong background in the field of cancer biology, metastasis, immunology and redox biology, extensive practical laboratory experience, experience in working with animal models of cancer and metastasis, advanced cell culture and flow cytometry. Other important qualities include strong self-discipline and organizational skills, good interpersonal team skills, and fluency in writing and speaking English. Following the qualitative overall assessment of skills and proficiency, applicants will be selected who are expected to have the best prerequisites for implementing and developing current tasks as well as contributing to a positive development of the scientific group.

An achieved doctoral degree in relevant subject such as tumor biology/redox biology or medicine is compulsory for the position as postdoctor. Since a position as postdoctor aims to give new holders of the doctorate the opportunity mainly to strengthen and develop their scholarly proficiency, we aim for those who have a doctoral degree not older than 3 years counting from last date of application deadline.

Employment

Temporary employment for 24 month, fulltime at the institute of clinical science. Start date as agreed.
