We have an exciting opportunity for a molecular/cellular biologist to join the cardiovascular disease group at AstraZeneca. You?ll initially be responsible for developing and evaluating approaches to directly reprogram cardiac fibroblasts into functional cardiac progenitor cells. You?ll then have the opportunity to continue with the hits from the developed assays through deconvolution, validation and optimization. This exciting opportunity will be complemented with phenotypic high content studies as well as functional assays. This work will have great impact in regenerative cardiology and will provide novel insights into underlying molecular pathways controlling cell fate. Your scientific research will also give you the opportunity to work with scientists across many disciplines.
Accountabilities/Responsibilities
Design, validate, and analyse experimental strategies, and make a significant contribution to the practical delivery of cell assays and readouts
Interpret experimental data and play a critical role in designing and planning future experiments
Show strong initiative in developing ideas and bringing them to functional use within AstraZeneca
Maintain an awareness of current developments in the literature
Use judgement and knowledge where appropriate to influence the work of the project, team, section, and department
Interact and collaborate with scientists across internal disciplines as well as with external experts
Achieve scientific visibility through project contributions, presentations internally and at international meetings, and publications
Minimum Requirements - Education and Experience
PhD in cell biology, molecular biology or biochemistry
Strong written and oral communication skills
Skills & Capabilities
Experience in phenotypic assay development
Previous practical experience with miRNA/siRNA
Knowledge of cardiac biology
Ability to design and carry out research independently
Understanding of target validation requirements for drug discovery
