Information about the project
This postdoc position focuses on manipulation of microparticles in liquids using optical forces and/or pothotothermally induced liquid flows and is based in our recent studies of metavehicles/metarotors and microbubble-induced Marangoni convection, respectively. Future applications are expected in the fields of microfluidics and microscopic robots (microbots) driven by light. The position involves experimental studies in advanced optics laboratories and finite element simulations in Comsol Multiphysics. It may also involve cleanroom work and sample fabrication. Specific formulation of research objectives will be decided in discussions with the successful applicant. You will work in a team of researchers with competences ranging from nano- and biophotonics to nanofabrication and theory. The Bionanophotonics group, lead by Professor Mikael Käll, has been engaged in advanced nanophotonics research since more than twenty years and is well-known for contributions to fields like plasmonics, surface-enhanced spectroscopy, optical manipulation, and metasurfaces.
Who we are looking for
We seek candidates with the following qualifications:
The applicant should have a PhD degree in physics, optics, nanoscience, or a related subject area. The applicant should have a extensive documented experience in optical experiments and equipment. Previous experience with Comsol Multiphysics is an advantage.
To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must hold a doctoral degree awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline.
The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. Swedish is not a requirement but Chalmers offers Swedish courses.
You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education.
• The date shown in your doctoral degree certificate is the date we use, as this is the date you have met all requirements for the doctoral degree. Exceptions from the 3-year limit can be made for longer periods resulting from parental leave, sick leave or military service.
What you will do
Your major responsibility as postdoc is to perform your own research in a research group. The position may also include teaching on undergraduate and master's levels as well as supervising master's and/or PhD students to a certain extent. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.
