The research group in Electronic Systems at the Department of Computer Science, Electrical and Space Engineering at Luleå University of Technology is established in the areas of electronic and electromagnetic simulation and design, machine learning and artificial intelligence in electrical engineering, electrical low-frequency and high-frequency measurement technology, and electromagnetic compatibility. We are active in education as well as in several externally funded research projects carried out in collaboration with industry. We have access to a number of laboratories, including a shielded chamber for measurements of the effects of electromagnetic exposure and radiation. To strengthen our research in the field of artificial intelligence (AI)-based spectral monitoring for radiofrequency signals for various applications as anomaly detection, modulation classification, sensing, and adaptive spectrum optimization, we are now looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow with ambitions within the academy for a two-year employment.

Subject description

Electronics systems include electronics design, measurement technology and electromagnetic compatibility for control, monitoring and instrumentation of technical processes and systems, with close connection to applications and applied research.

Project description

Your work will be embedded into a cutting-edge research project dedicated to the development of advanced AI-based techniques for radiofrequency spectral monitoring across a wide range of highly relevant applications. These applications include, but are not limited to, anomaly detection, modulation classification, sensing, and adaptive spectrum optimization in diverse operational environments. Your work will focus on modeling and algorithmic aspects related to the development of highly accurate, efficient, and robust AI models capable of operating effectively within complex and dynamic radiofrequency spectral landscapes, accounting for real-world interference, noise, and channel variability.

You will collaborate with other members of the group who will support the practical deployment of the developed AI models on portable and embedded platforms, enabling real-time processing and validation under realistic operational conditions. This group work will bridge the gap between theoretical research and real-world applicability, ensuring that developed solutions are not only innovative but also scalable and implementable in field scenarios.

By integrating both software and hardware considerations, this project aims to advance the state-of-the-art in spectral monitoring and signal intelligence, providing significant contributions to the broader fields of wireless communications, IoT, and beyond. You will actively develop and gain hands-on experience with high-performance AI modeling, embedded system implementation, and end-to-end signal analysis workflows, positioning them at the forefront of AI-driven research in radiofrequency spectral monitoring.

Duties

The work will mainly include research connected to the project described above. Supervision of students and active participation in our fundraising activities will be included in the tasks with a maximum of 20% of working hours.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must have a Ph.D., a doctoral degree or a foreign degree corresponding to a Ph.D. or doctoral degree in electrical engineering, computer science, engineering mathematics or related subjects. Persons who have completed a doctoral degree no more than three years before the end of the application period are prioritized. You must have very good skills in the English language, both orally and in writing. Experience on AI techniques applied to electrical engineering applications is an advantage. Also experience with radiofrequency signal generation, measurements, and processing is an advantage.
