The exciting aspect of this project is being part of the bigger context of the Swedish Electricity Storage and Balancing Centre (SESBC), which involves many non-academic partners and a number of PhD students and postdoctoral fellows. Interactions with these people and the access to a large diversity of competences makes this postdoc position rather unique.
Project description
The recruited postdoc is expected to do research on PEM based fuel cells and electrolysers and materials used therein with the purpose of better understanding degradation mechanisms and transport phenomena that limit the performance of these devices. Focus will be on operational conditions that are relevant for the integration of fuel cells/electrolysers in electrical grids. State of the art PEM technologies will be considered, but also new materials concepts proposed by our partners in the competence center Swedish Electricity Storage and Balancing Centre (SESBC).
Information about the division and the department
The project will be performed at the department of Chemistry and chemical engineering at Chalmers, in close collaboration with a PhD student and is part of a bigger context of the Swedish Electricity Storage and Balancing Centre (SESBC). To a certain extent, the postdoc may also contribute in teaching activities.
Major responsibilities
The postdoc candidate will investigate fuel cell / electrolyser components as-prepared and post-use and, to the extent that it is possible, in-situ; analyzing the chemical stability of the PEM, the physical integrity of the MEA and the characteristic polarization curves. State-of-the-art fuel cell test stations are available and state-of-the-art materials and components provided by our partners will be the scope of the studies.
Qualifications
A PhD degree in physics, chemistry, materials science or another related field, as well as excellent language skills in English are required. The following is of particular importance for this project:
a) Interest in using advanced experimental methods
b) Fascination for the fuel cell / electrolysis technology
c) Skills in data analysis and ability to integrate high quality in the analysis process
d) Dedication to writing scientific articles
e) Ethical approach to research and collaboration
To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must hold a doctoral degree awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline (according to the current agreement with the Swedish Agency for Government Employers). Exceptions from the 3-year limit can be made for longer periods resulting from parental leave, sick leave or military service*.
• The date shown in your doctoral degree certificate is the date we use, as this is the date you have met all requirements for the doctoral degree.
Contract terms
This postdoc position is a full-time temporary employment for two years.
