The postdoctoral position offers a unique opportunity to develop a profound understanding of aircraft propulsion system modeling in one of the best research environments in Europe. In close collaboration with industry, we will develop new models for low bypass ratio aircraft engines and novel propulsion systems. New formulations and ways to perform conceptual engine designs will be explored. The effort will interlink with several on-going projects and staff, giving an excellent possibility to publish extensively.

Project description
The research group of Turbomachinery and Aeroacoustics at the department of Mechanics and Maritime Sciences focuses its research primarily on computational and experimental analysis of aero engines. Areas of study are system analysis, engine concept evaluation, and detailed high speed compressible flow in compressors, turbines, transition ducts, heat-exchangers, combustors/afterburners, and nozzles. Validation data is provided by our compressor and turbine exhaust rigs at Reynolds number representative flow conditions.

The project will rely on the group's capability to conceptually design complex aero engine systems, one of our key competences. In-house developed tools will be combined with commercial software to develop new models for high specific thrust engines as well as new cycles with advanced humid air treatment as part of the SWITCH | A Clean Aviation Project.

Higher order aerodynamic and thermodynamic modeling will support the system level analysis and we have the ambition to better integrate the models into aircraft simulation tools.

You will join a very capable research team that, for instance, has on-going research project in the areas of novel propulsion systems, future ways to operate aircraft and airports, the conceptualization of future hydrogen aircraft and experimental analysis of future propulsion systems. This will allow you to collaborate and co-publish with researchers in related areas to your project. The connection to students is also very close, through our successful aerospace track on the Chalmers mobility master. You may collaborate with students to accelerate your research efforts.

Major responsibilities
Your major responsibilities as a postdoctoral researcher is to develop your career and publish well in the area of aircraft propulsion. This involves developing an industrial network as well as going deep into the modeling of future novel propulsion systems and aircraft.

The position may also include teaching on undergraduate and master's levels as well as supervising master's and/or PhD students to a certain extent. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large.

Qualifications
To qualify as a postdoctoral candidate, you must have a Ph.D. awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline (according to the current agreement with the Swedish Agency for Government Employers), in the area of complex system modelling, preferably in the area of aerospace or have an aerospace background.

The position requires oral and written communication skills in English. Swedish is not required, but you will be encouraged to learn Swedish during employment. As the work will be conducted in a highly multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary environment cultural awareness and good collaboration and communication skills are important. It is equally important that you are motivated and a problem solver. As a postdoctoral candidate you must be curious and persistent. We are looking for a team-player that supports a healthy job environment where honesty, respect, and transparency are among our core values.

You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education.

Contract terms
This postdoc position is a full-time temporary employment for two years with the possibility of a one-year extension.
