A project titled "Evidence for Policy and Implementation - intensifying efforts to achieve health-related MDGs in four countries with developing economies" (EPI-4) has started this year with support from Sida. EPI-4 is designed to identify the most disadvantaged populations in India, China, Indonesia and Vietnam and to highlight their needs and relevant research that could meet these needs in order to reach the health-related Millennium Development Goals (Nos. 4, 5, 6). The project is a collaborative effort between four Swedish universities and four departments and leading universities in India, China, Indonesia and Vietnam. The Division of Global Health (IHCAR) is the leading contractor and investigator.
Tasks:
1. Conduct literature reviews on relevant topics in relation to the health-related MDGs.
2. Conduct secondary data analysis of data from the selected province in China.
3. Plan, prepare and write policy briefs and manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals in collaboration with partners.
4. Organize network meetings with high-level decision makers in China.
5. Follow activities and timelines provided in project planning documents.
Eligibility/Qualifications
To qualify, the applicant must hold a doctor's degree or a foreign qualification deemed equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have completed their degree no more than three years before the last date for applications should be given priority. Candidates who have completed their degree earlier than this should receive equal priority if special grounds exist.
Postgraduates who have yet to graduate may apply if their public defense is scheduled to take place within three months after the application deadline, in which case verification from the Dissertation Committee or equivalent body must be submitted with the application.
Requirements:
PhD in health systems, management or public health
Fluency in Mandarin or Cantonese
Knowledge of the Chinese health system
Excellent written and spoken English
Sufficient statistical skills to handle large datasets of primary data and show descriptive statistics on the MDG indicators
Excellent organizational skills
Extra consideration given to candidates who have:
Experience in organizing high-level meetings
Experience in conducting health-related research in China
