Our group primarily focuses on quantum materials, exploring aspects such as the symmetry and topology of ordered phases of matter, non-equilibrium dynamics, and stochastic processes in materials. The initial appointment for this position is for a duration of two years, with an option for extension to a third year. The starting date is as soon as possible.
Project description
This opportunity is part of a broader research initiative focused on investigating material excitations far from equilibrium within the emerging field of ultrafast thermodynamics. Ultrafast thermodynamics translates well-understood concepts, such as entropy and heat, into characteristic time and length scales of material excitations. You will develop tools in ultrafast material science and nonequilibrium statistical physics to create an efficient framework for the thermal control of materials, as well as for the characterization of phase transitions and metastability.
Information about the division
The Division of Condensed Matter and Materials Theory constructs models and develops an understanding of a wide variety of materials and other condensed matter systems. This often leads to the creation of new materials, novel technological devices, or structured media with properties beyond those found in nature. To achieve this, we combine theoretical, methodological, and computational techniques, frequently collaborating closely with local and international experimental groups.
Major responsibilities
You will actively contribute to scientific projects alongside national and international collaborators, engaging in presentations, discussions, and publications. Additionally, you will have the chance to shape innovative concepts within the emerging field of ultrafast thermodynamics. Furthermore, we anticipate you will strengthen the group's focus areas by establishing an individual research line that aligns with your background and interests.
We are dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive research environment, welcoming applicants from all backgrounds. We are committed to supporting your career development and providing opportunities to broaden your expertise. Moreover, we prioritize personal well-being, offering benefits for health and fitness activities, along with flexible part-time work options to accommodate individual needs.
Qualifications
To be eligible for this position, you should hold a PhD degree in physics or a related field awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline (according to the current agreement with the Swedish Agency for Government Employers), or be in the process of completing your PhD. Exceptions from the 3-year limit can be made for longer periods resulting from parental leave, sick leave or military service.
Additionally, experience in one of the following two areas is considered advantageous: i) non-equilibrium physics, ii) condensed matter theory.
Proficiency in English, both oral and written, is crucial for effective scientific communication.
Contract terms
This postdoc position is a full-time temporary employment for two years, with an option for extension to a third year.
