Department or Urban and Rural Development
At the Department of Urban and Rural Development there are four divisions: Agrarian History, Environmental Communication, Landscape Architecture and Rural Development. The department is the largest within SLU for social sciences, humanities and design research. Questions about sustainable use and management of natural resources and landscapes are central to research and education at the department. The Swedish Centre for Nature Interpretation and Sidas Helpdesk for Environment and Climate Change are also part of the department.
Duties:
We are looking for a post doc to strengthen our research at the intersection of landscape and planning studies. We are particularly interested in qualitative or conceptual studies of planning in relation to outdoor recreation or everyday mobilities or spatial/green/mobility justice. The post-doc will play a key role in the five-year research project "The welfare landscape reassembled: policies for sustainable outdoor recreation in times of urban densification", and the Landscape, Planning and Governance group. Potential studies of interest are for instance:

• Critical examinations of how recreational mobilities, or the geography of recreation, is conceptualised and spatialized in contemporary planning.
• Qualitative studies of recreational mobilities (or of leisure travels) and their interplay and conflicts with landscape amenities.
• Revisiting post-war leisure planning in the light of the current needs for sustainability shifts.
• Studies of how 'ecosystem service' or 'nature-based solution-approaches' frame the understanding of outdoor recreation/mobility and the urban landscape in contemporary planning.
• Conceptual studies at the intersection of mobility justice and landscape planning.

The final project description will be developed together with the leader of the Welfare landscapes project to nestle synergies with our ongoing research. The postdoctoral fellow will be part of an active, expanding and international research environment with ample opportunity for international collaborations. We expect the post-doc to be present at the department most workdays of the week.

Qualifications:
The candidate should have a PhD in a social scientific subject of the humanities, which clearly connects to planning and/or landscape studies. The PhD degree should not be more than three years old. Experience of studies of recreation, and/or ethnographic studies of everyday use of outdoor environments, is an advantage. Fluency in English is a requirement. Fluency in Swedish, Danish or Norwegian is an advantage, as well as knowledge of Swedish spatial planning. In the assessments of the candidates we will focus especially on theoretical skills, experience with landscape, planning and mobility studies of relevance for the project, and the candidate's experience of publishing academic work individually and as part of a team. We will also evaluate the candidate's motivation, and capacity to collaborate with our interdisciplinary team.

The application should contain: 1) a cover letter describing yourself, your motivation for applying for the position, and a short description of what to focus on during the post doc position, and why (maximum 2 A4 pages); 2) a CV describing your education, publications, relevant work experience, etc.; 3) contact information for two references; 4) PhD certificate; 5) Academic publications of relevance for the position.
