Skilled and committed employees are a crucial factor in the success of Linköping University. And we need more of them. Our core expertise comes from teachers and researchers, but a successful university requires experienced and motivated employees in many fields. Everyone is important. We need to recruit many new employees thanks to, among all, an expansion in our research activity. We need you here. We look forward to receiving your application!

The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology conducts research and offers education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Research, the predominant activity, is often done in collaboration with corporate and international partners. We are one of the university's largest, oldest and most well known departments, encompassing five interacting scientific fields: biology, chemistry, material physics, applied physics and theory and modelling.

We are now looking to appoint a postdoc in the field of Theory of disordered materials.

Work assignments
You will work on theoretical research in physics and materials science in the area of metastable materials. Methodological work on the basic understanding and predictions of metastability, as well as specific projects aimed at designing novel metastable phases of matter for different applications will be pursued. Such projects will be carried out in collaborations with experimental groups using high-pressure synthesis, thin-film deposition techniques or rapid quenching during additive manufacturing which all can be paths to obtain metastable materials phases. The specific projects will be chosen taking your expertise and interests into account.

As postdoc, you will principally carry out research. A certain amount of teaching or student co-supervision may be part of your duties if desired and if available, up to a maximum of 20% of working hours.

The workplace
You will be employed in Linköping at the Department of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (IFM) in the Division of Theoretical physics and the unit of Theory of disordered materials.

Our division and unit performs world-leading theoretical research materials modeling and methods development for studies of materials at high pressure, magnetic materials at high temperature, disordered alloys and many other applications of first-principles based materials physics. We are around 40 researchers in our division and 10 in our unit.

Qualifications
To be qualified to take employment as postdoc, you must have been awarded a doctoral degree or have a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree. This degree must have been awarded at the latest by the point at which LiU makes its decision to employ you.

It is considered advantageous if your doctoral degree is no older than three years at application deadline for this job. If there are special reasons for having an older doctoral degree - such as taking statutory leave - then these may be taken into consideration.

We are seeking you who have a doctoral degree in physics, materials science, materials chemistry or adjacent areas. Knowledge of first-principles based modeling of materials is needed. Fluency in spoken and written english is a must. Demonstrated skills in modeling of disordered materials, ab-initio molecular dynamics, modeling of magnetic materials, diffusion simulations, thermodynamic modeling and studies of high-pressure phases is meriting. Previous experience in addressing specific problems related to metastability is very valuable.
