We are now looking to appoint a postdoc in the field of sustainable resource management.
Work assignments
The advertised position would work to develop and carry out a study to develop consumer phosphorus footprints for Sweden and Canada in a way that is compatible with existing carbon and nitrogen footprint work. This would be done for 3 groups of consumers: the public, community gardeners, and community gardeners who undergo a training intervention on P sustainability The idea is to evaluate the potential role of urban agriculture training as an experiential learning intervention to change attitudes and behaviors related to phosphorus management within and beyond city limits.
Transforming from today's unhealthy and harmful food system to a sustainable one requires engagement all along the food chain, from farmers to consumers. Cities, as centres of food consumption and waste production, contribute to resource demand (e.g. mined phosphorus fertilizers) and pollution (e.g. phosphorus induced eutrophication of waterways). Despite their collective purchasing and voting power, urban consumers remain one of the most elusive actors to engage in deep sustainability transformation work. Experiential learning has successfully altered rural farmer nutrient management and met other citizen educational goals. However, it has not been tested as an intervention to change food consumer preferences and actions across scales. This project will test the hypothesis that training, in the context of urban agriculture as an experiential learning opportunity, can alter participant behaviors in their gardens, and their diet and waste management preferences beyond the garden.
This position comes with a large amount of flexibility with regard to how to design and carry out the study.
As postdoc, you will principally carry out research. A certain amount of teaching may be part of your duties, up to a maximum of 20% of working hours.
