How can we improve housing design for resource efficiency and changes over time?
In this Post-doc position you will join our group for housing research and contribute to developing knowledge about housing design with a strong focus on sustainability.

Information about the division and the department
The post-doc is positioned at the Department for Architecture and Civil Engineering the division for Building Design. The Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering has about 290 employees encompassing a broad theoretical knowledge base, where design-based artistic architectural research meets engineering, social sciences and the humanities. The combination of all of these perspectives allows for great interdisciplinary advancement in the field and a broader discussion of various aspects of sustainability. Together, we provide a comprehensive environment for architecture and civil engineering, well equipped to take on the common challenges of building a sustainable future.

The division Building Design embraces research and teaching in building design and building planning and production. Chalmers has a longstanding tradition of specialization in housing research and design, and gathers senior researchers with broad national and international collaboration and strong relations with partners outside academia, e.g. Riksbyggen Positive Footprint Housing and HSB Living Lab. The division hosts the Center for Housing Architecture, a national platform for knowledge production and knowledge exchange which engages partners among architectural offices, authorities and public agencies.

Project description
Your will work will be carried out within a research project called "Dwellology"- People, sustainability and energy in future homes. The aim is to contribute to the understanding of how spatial characteristics of homes affects behavior, and energy and resource use, and also how design can accommodate expected as well as unpredicted changes. The objective is to develop decision and design support to change the way we plan and build more sustainable and resilient future housing.

The project is carried out through empirical case studies of cutting-edge housing projects, and through workshops and feed-back seminar with construction industry actors. You will work with senior researchers and industry partners, but are expected to take considerate responsibilities for planing and carrying out your research. Results are to be published in scientific journals and in popular articles and reports. You will organize meetings and workshops with industry partners and research funders, and participate in the dissemination of results at scientific conferences and industry seminars.

Qualifications
You have a master degree and a PhD in Architecture or equivalent, and experience of housing design and housing research. You have knowledge about sustainable building and energy systems and buildings. You master qualitative studies, including interviews, and master data management and analysis. You are fluent in English and have documented experience of publishing in international scientific journals. It is meritorious if you can read and speak Swedish, have knowledge about Swedish housing tradition and history, and if you are skilled in quantitative studies. As a post-doc you are expected to work independently. You are self-propelled, creative and have problem-solving analytical abilities. You have experience of organising workshops and set-up meetings with non-academic partners. You are relationship-oriented and genuinely interested in understanding other peoples views and sharing knowledge and experience.
