We are seeking a postdoctoral research fellow for an experimental project focused on superconducting devices for the routing, detection, and manipulation of single microwave photons. Candidates with backgrounds in physics or engineering are encouraged to apply. The project is part of a European collaboration. This position is a full-time employment (2 years), with a competitive salary according to Swedish regulations.

About us
The Quantum Device Physics Laboratory (QDP) conducts state-of-the-art research and innovation in nano-device physics. Our mission is to develop novel nanoelectronic quantum devices for future generations of information technology-devices that are smaller, faster, more sensitive, and energy-efficient, contributing to a sustainable society.

We focus on advancing new concepts in device physics with applications in quantum metrology, radio astronomy, medical instrumentation, and spintronics. Our team is deeply engaged in national and international collaborations, including partnerships with Aalto University in Finland, the National Physical Laboratory in the United Kingdom, RISE in Sweden, and several others.

About the research project
In this project, you will develop engineered superconducting devices for quantum routing, manipulation and detection of single microwave photons. Available facilities include device fabrication in cleanroom environment, and infrastructure for microwave measurements at single-photon level. If successful, the project will deliver next-generation devices for quantum information and communication technologies.

Who we are looking for
The following requirements are mandatory:

• A doctoral degree in physics or engineering or an equivalent foreign degree. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made
• You will need strong written and verbal communication skills in English
• Experience in nanofabrication of devices (cleanroom environment)
• Experience in microwave engineering and measurements

You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education.

The following experience will strengthen your application:

• A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline
• Experience in design and fabrication of superconducting quantum devices
• Hands on microwave simulation software
• Experience in low-noise high-frequency electronic measurements at cryogenic temperatures

What you will do

• Development of microwave photon devices exploiting novel design concepts
• Full development cycle: engineering, fabrication by electron beam lithography, and device characterization
• Active participation in research in the field of quantum technology
• Supervise master's and/or PhD students to a certain extent
• Possibility to engage in teaching at undergraduate/master's level

The position is meritorious for future roles in academia, industry, or the public sector.

Contract terms
The position is a temporary full-time employment for two years with the possibility of a one-year extension.

The position requires physical presence throughout the entire employment. A valid residence permit must be presented by the start date, otherwise the offer may be withdrawn.
