We invite applications for a postdoctoral position in theoretical physics within a project on cavity-coupled quantum dots. The research is interdisciplinary, spanning quantum transport, quantum optics, and quantum thermodynamics, and is highly relevant for emerging quantum technologies.

As a postdoc, you will collaborate with a network of theoretical and experimental physicists at Chalmers and with international partners in the FLAG-ERA project ThinQ. You will also have the opportunity to contribute your own research ideas and take part in supervising PhD students.

About the research project
The position, starting in the first half of 2026, will be based in the theory division of the Department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience (MC2), which hosts research ranging from quantum transport and quantum information to quantum materials and thermodynamics. The postdoc will join the group Dynamics and Thermodynamics of Nanoscale Devices, led by Janine Splettstoesser.

The project focuses on terahertz quantum sensing with bilayer graphene quantum dots in resonators and is part of the FLAG-ERA ThinQ collaboration with experimental groups in Paris and Aachen. Beyond sensing, there will be opportunities to investigate the thermodynamic properties of cavity-coupled quantum-dot systems, in close collaboration with PhD students and postdocs working on quantum thermodynamics within the ERC-funded project NanoRecycle.

Who we are looking for
We seek a highly motivated and skilled candidate with a strong interest in the theoretical analysis of nanoscale and quantum devices, at the interface of quantum transport, quantum optics, and thermodynamics. The successful candidate will conduct research in close collaboration with team members, take responsibility in supervising PhD students, and interact with international experimental partners. Initiative and the ability to contribute with original research ideas within the project are highly valued.

You will work in a collaborative environment where teamwork and scientific exchange are central to success. The main responsibility is to carry out the research project; there are no mandatory teaching duties.

The following requirements are mandatory:

• To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must hold a doctoral degree in theoretical physics or similiar field, awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline*.
• You will need strong written and verbal communication skills in English
• Experience in theory of quantum transport or quantum optics
• You should be self-propelled with a strong driving force to pursue excellent theoretical research in a collaborative environment

You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education.

• The date on your doctoral degree certificate is considered the official date of completion. Exceptions to the three-year eligibility limit may be made for documented circumstances such as parental leave, sick leave, or military service.

The following experience will strengthen your application:

• Experience in both quantum transport and quantom optics

What you will do

• Conduct independent research in collaboration with the research group
• Publish and present your work at conferences and in journals
• Supervise master's and/or PhD students to a certain extent
• Possibility to engage in teaching at undergraduate/master's level
• Collaborate within academia and with society at large

The position is meritorious for future roles in academia, industry, or the public sector.

Contract terms
The position is a temporary full-time employment for two years with the possibility of a one-year extension.

The position requires physical presence throughout the entire employment. A valid residence permit must be presented by the start date, otherwise the offer may be withdrawn.
