Department of Plant Breeding
About the position
This interdisciplinary research project has a focus on i) breeding of stable and robust wheat and ii) studying of nutritional-end-use quality and structure in wheat and beans with the aim to explore the use of latest x-ray/neutron techniques.

The project strives to develop robust wheat varieties capable of thriving in diverse environmental conditions. We will conduct field trials in specialized locations experiencing drought, flooding, and heat, as well as controlled growth experiments for detailed molecular and grain quality assessments. The project is expected to lead to new tools and methods to be developed that can support breeders in developing robust varieties adapted to a changing climate.

The main goal of the project is to evaluate structure-function relationship in bean protein systems and to investigate micronutrients/and Cd in diverse wheat and bean types. In addition, the project also aims at probing of the plant components' nanostructure by advanced imaging tools and determining the main factors diversifying the nutritional value of beans from diverse climates.

The work includes to examine these plant materials to determine the structure and end-use properties and tolerance to abiotic stresses. The postdoc is also expected to work in the examination of the micronutrients/toxic metals in different crops. Also, supervision of MSc and PhD students may be included in the work tasks.

Your profile
The successful candidate will hold a PhD in Agriculture Sciences related field. Experience in studying on how abiotic stresses impact crop development, nutritional quality and protein quality characteristics in wheat crop is a requirement. Specific focus is on microelements/and toxic metals and their characterization in a crop by common analytical spectroscopy methods. Good experience in analytical characterization of protein properties in a crop using high performance liquid chromatography and use of advanced X-ray/neutron imaging techniques is important. She/he should be fluent in spoken and written English and have excellent communication skills. The candidate will be part of a research group and is expected to contribute positively to the group environment, and must have the ability to both work independently and together with other researchers in the group.

The position is intended for a junior researcher and we are mainly looking for people who have completed a doctoral degree no more than three years ago
