The employment is part of a larger project, carried out in collaboration with world-leading French researchers in this area and the French food company Danone.

At the Department of Energy and Technology, research and education are conducted focusing on how agriculture can contribute to a sustainable society. We have extensive expertise in technology and systems for sustainable production of food and bioenergy, including nutrient recycling and logistics systems. As for methodology we have extensive competence in system analysis including environmental systems analysis and LCA, as well as biometrics (statistics and mathematics with applications in biological systems). Research related to sustainable food production involves quantitative studies of the impact of various food and food on the environment, modelling of future scenarios for a more sustainable diet and providing support for various informative and financial policy instruments for more sustainable diets.

SLU Future Food is one of SLU's four future platforms that deals with complex scientific issues and is characterized by a multidisciplinary approach with a future perspective. The work is conducted across the faculties and in collaboration with relevant food system stakeholders. The vision is that SLU Future Food as a strategic research platform helps to strengthen the food system to make it sustainable and competitive. The food system means all the processes and infrastructure needed to provide the population with food. It includes sustainable land use, primary production, processing, packaging, distribution, marketing and sales as well as cooking, consumption and waste management. The food system operates and is influenced by social, political and economic contexts. Sustainability refers to ecological as well as economic and social sustainability.

The employment involves the development of a model to evaluate different dietary patterns aimed at lowering the environmental impact of diets while nutritional recommendations regarding macro and micronutrients are met. The model will then be used to evaluate current Swedish and French diets at the individual level as well as diets where dairy products are replaced by plant-based options. This study is part of a larger project where different types of cost evaluations are made by French researchers and in collaboration with the French food company Danone.
Qualifications:
We are looking for a motivated person with a doctor degree in technology, environmental science, mathematics, statistics, nutrition, agricultural or food science, or similar subjects. Appropriate applicants should have experience of modelling, programming and statistical methods. Interest in environmental issues, knowledge about food production and human nutrition is a merit. You must be able to work independently and have an interest and ability to developing this research area at SLU including interacting with several external actors. Furthermore, you need to be structured and careful with detail. Because international cooperation is part of the project, good organizational skills and good knowledge of English are required. We put great emphasis on personal qualities. Knowledge in Swedish is an advantage.
