The Department of Biology and Environmental Science is part of the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. The research activities within this multidisciplinary department include the areas of aquatic ecology, cell and organism biology, evolutionary biology, microbiology, environmental science and environmental engineering as well as zoonotic ecology.
Field of subject for the position:
The post doc. will be employed for work in the BONUS BLUEPRINT project supported by BONUS (Art 185), funded jointly by the EU and national funding institutions. The objective of BLUEPRINT is to provide improved input to biogeochemical models, and a novel set of indicators for Good Environmental Status (GES) directed towards the food web descriptor according to the Marine Strategic Framework Directive (MSFD). This practical output of the proposal will be based on the relative dominance of metabolic and regulatory pathways, with the tentative name BPI (Biogeochemical Pathway Indicator).

Full time, temporary position 6 month with possibility of extension.
Required qualifications
Qualified for the appointment is the one who holds a PhD, or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD, and who have completed their degree no more than three years before the application deadline. Applicants must not have previously been employed as a postdoctoral fellow for more than a year in the same or related subject area at Linnaeus University.
The applicant should have a background in Microbial Ecology and, Molecular Biology. Also required is experience in analyzing large datasets working with metagenomic and/or metatranscriptomic data. This would include experience in analyzing complex natural microbial communities.
Further assessment criteria:
Demonstrated knowledge about biogeochemical cycles, e.g. element transformations within the C, N and S cycles, microbial drivers and ecosystem functions of the Baltic Sea, will be valuable.
