Linnaeus University is the result of a merger between Kalmar University and Växjö University. The research activities within the Department of Biology and Environmental Science include the areas of aquatic ecology, cell and organism biology, evolutionary biology, microbiology, environmental science (including palaeoecology) and environmental engineering as well as zoonotic ecology. The research project will focus on pollen-based Holocene land-cover reconstructions in China using a modelling approach and collaboration with archaeologists.The research group at Linnaeus University includes two professors, two postdocs and a number of external PhD students (affiliated to other Swedish Universities) involved in the research projects of the group. Professor M.-J. Gaillard coordinates a large international network, LandCover6k, endorsed by the international research platform PAGES (PAst Global changES). The research project is a contribution to LandCover6k.
Qualification requirements for the position are a PhD in environmental science (with a focus on palaeoecology and pollen analysis), experience in pollen-vegetation modelling, and knowledge of general Holocene vegetation history over the globe. Skills in Geographical Information System (GIS) and multivariate numerical analysis are also required.
Other assessment grounds that would place the candidate at an advantage include a high proficiency in written and spoken English, the ability to solve problems, and the ability to work independently as well as interact well in a research group. Experience in collaboration with archaeologists will also be an advantage.
Terms of employment: The position will be 100 % during 2 years from 2017-03-01. The position is located in Kalmar, Sweden.
